The Light of the World

The Light of the World is a memoir centered around the tragic, sudden death of Elizabeth Alexander’s husband and the resulting reflections and experiences of Alexander and her family.

It is hard to write a set of sentences that do justice to the depth of this book and the meditations on the human experience that result from it. What I can comment on confidently, however, is the power and warmth conveyed by Alexander’s prose (not reactions one would expect from a memoir on such an existential and sensitive topic), and the indeilibity of Alexander’s writing about her time with her husband.
