Wright Thompson

Thompson is one of my favorite writers — of any subject, let alone sports, where he is the king of athlete profiles. This book was a series of studies into the “afterlife” of legendary sports figures; how they were or were not able to deal with life after sports, how it affected their worldview and often ate into them from the inside. Michael Jordan’s chapter was brilliant, as was Tiger Woods. But it was the profile of post Hurricane Katrina New Orleans that was my favorite — I’d highly recommend.
