Summary

I had read about Socrates’ trail and defense strategy only in a biographic sense, but hadn’t ever actually taken on the transcript in full.

Socrates is dogmatic, hilarious, and laudable in his attachment to the morals of his argument, even though he assumes it will lead to his conviction and capital punishment. He is, at least in this translation, not the most accommodating personality, which he admits contributed to his reputation and others’ motivation to engineer his downfall. This is quite worth the read if only to hear a fuller elucidation of Socrates’ philosophy that an unexamined life is not worth living, and why.
