I was stunned by the quality of Knight’s storytelling. You often forget while reading the book that he is a CEO, not an essayist, and it’s that writing ability that separates this away from the ranks of other business memoirs. The most surprising element of the book is actually Knight’s telling of Nike’s timeline of development. The book shows in excruciating detail the slow burn of development over many many years of Nike’s growth, and how close the company was to failure over and over again. I loved it.
