Of the books I’ve read thus far that could be characterized as a “review” of the main threats and trends that lay in front of us during the next 100+ years, this is my favorite. Rees is most realistic, forward, and at times frightening, about the true scale of the problems that stare down humanity. His vantage point of cosmology is well suited for this type of thinking because it abstracts the reader further away from a standpoint of the here and now, which is often selfish and myopic. Instead, one feels closer to the original position when reading this — a bit more objective.
