Summary

Caro is a genius. After enjoying Caro’s published works on Lyndon Johnson, nervously awaiting his final book of the series, and preparing to take on The Power Broker, I’ve begun to become a bit of a fanboy (a la Conan). But it’s for good reason. In this short work, narrated by Caro, he explains why he took on Moses and Johnson as subjects for nearly the entirety of his career, and how he has through his work experienced the impact political and social power can have on an individual and societal scale. The two main anecdotes he uses to explain this point are too powerful to spoil by means of summarizing here; all I can do is implore you to listen to them yourself. On Power is the perfect supplement to Caro’s other books.
