After thousands of years, still some of the most engaging and brilliant writing one can read. Paul Woodruff provides a wonderful, long introduction and great context for each passage of the History, with some much-needed footnotes where necessary to denote directions he has taken with this translation that differ from other classical versions. There are such valuable reminders of strategy and the unchanged tenants and weaknesses of human nature here, especially culminating in the Sicilian Expedition passages, which are still my favorite part of the History, followed by the Funeral Oration. Note that the text size on each page of this particular volume pretty damn small, making this a pretty serious and dense 210 pages.
