Summary

I love Sunstein’s argumentation and this was no different. Here, he centers his thinking not around the philosophical components of “freedom” but around the more concrete concept of “navigability” — the many elements that push someone inside of a “free” system to be more likely to take a given action, whether or not they wanted to. Examples of this can be seemingly uncontrollable like weather, but can also be insidious, conscious and system (Jim Crow laws, foreign propaganda, or even labeling of food ingredients). This was an important sense through which to look through our democratic system, and I’m glad I read it.
