Michael Pollan
This book was a combination of a scientific review of the effects of psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, ect.) on the human mind and body, of the author’s personal history and experiences with psychedelics, and of the history and culture of psychedelics from the ancient world to the 21st century. It was very well done — Pollan proves capable of a dispassionate analysis of the science, but also capable of factoring in the emotional experience of his own use when appropriate.
